To encourage more leadership by women in Guyana’s energy sector, Ambassador Lynch hosted a group of leaders to discuss the barriers and possible solutions to encourage more women to enter this dynamic field. As Guyana is poised to become one of the fastest growing economies in the Western Hemisphere, one of the U.S. Embassy’s key objectives is to encourage women’s active participation in leadership and decision-making. The meaningful participation of women is integral to achieving greater security and stability around the world.
During the discussion, guests shared some barriers that continue to prevent women from working in the energy industry and their vision for encouraging women and girls to pursue careers in the sector. Ambassador Lynch noted the value of mentorship, saying “mentorship underlies most of our professional successes and we are here to support mentoring for this and the next generation of women.”
The initiative is part of the U.S. Embassy’s ongoing work to encourage prosperity for all Guyanese.
