Know Before You Apply
ANNOUNCEMENT: Beginning September 15, 2023, U.S. Embassy Georgetown will begin accepting online fee payments for adult U.S. passport renewal applications. Qualifying adult passport renewal applicants may pay the $130 passport renewal fee online via U.S. or international credit or debit card, electronic funds transfer from a U.S.-based bank account, Amazon Pay, or Pay Pal. Click here to pay the fee online.
- I can submit my most recent U.S. passport book with my renewal application;
- I was at least 16 years old when my most recent passport book was issued;
- I was issued my most recent U.S. passport book less than 15 years ago;
- My most recent U.S. passport book has a validity of 10 years from issuance to expiration;
- My most recent U.S. passport book was issued in my current name (or I can document my name change by submitting a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order with my passport application;) and
- I currently reside in and/or have a valid mailing address in Guyana.
Online fee payment is currently available for passport book renewals only. If you wish to renew or apply for a passport card, your processing fee must be paid in person at the Embassy.
Requirements for All Applicants
You must apply for your U.S. passport renewal in person by scheduling a pre-arranged appointment at our scheduling site.
Online Fee Payment: Applicants who choose to pay their passport renewal fees online should schedule their renewal appointment on Wednesdays to benefit from reduced wait times at the Embassy.
In-Person Fee Payment: Applicants who prefer to pay their passport renewal fees at the Embassy should schedule their renewal appointment on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.
Please electronically complete and print the application form using the passport wizard before your appointment.
Gather all the required documents prior to your appointment. If you do not have all of your documents in order, you may be asked to return to the ACS Unit at a later date. Keep in mind that the Consular Officer has the discretion to request more information.

Complete form DS-82 and bring it SIGNED with you on the day of your interview.
Evidence of Applicant’s U.S. Citizenship and Identity
Please bring your most recent U.S. passport as evidence of your citizenship. Your most recent U.S. passport must be cancelled by our office before you receive a new one. Photocopies or notarized/certified copies are not accepted.
Evidence of Name Change
If you have legally changed your name since applying for your most recent passport, you need to submit evidence documenting the name change. This can be a marriage certificate, divorce certificate, court order, or Deed Poll from Guyana.
One (1) Passport-Sized Photo
Photo must be taken in color with a white background. The photo must be 2 inches by 2 inches. The photo should show the full face and ears of the applicant. Applicants should not wear glasses for photos. See examples of acceptable photos.
Copies of Original Documents
You must make copies of all original documents, including passports and IDs, which you will present with your application. If you do not have copies, you will be asked to return with copies. Photocopies must be on white, 8 ½ x 11’ standard paper stock (letter size). All copies must be single-sided
Evidence of Fee Payment
If you paid your passport renewal fee online, you must print out the electronic payment confirmation you received via email and bring it to the Embassy on your appointment date.

Pay Fees
If you did not pay the passport renewal fee online prior to appearing at the Embassy, you will be required to pay the application fee in cash in U.S. dollars or Guyana dollars or with a U.S. credit card at the Embassy on the day of your interview. All fees are non-refundable. The fee for your new passport is $130.00.
Reminder: To use the online payment system, you must answer YES to all of the following:
- I can submit my most recent U.S. passport book with my renewal application;
- I was at least 16 years old when my most recent passport book was issued;
- I was issued my most recent U.S. passport book less than 15 years ago;
- My most recent U.S. passport book has a validity of 10 years from issuance to expiration;
