Immigrant Status of Visa Services

The U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana has resumed visa operations under the State Department’s existing phased resumption of visa services framework and local safety and health guidelines.  We continue to closely monitor local conditions in Guyana and implement safeguards to keep our staff and customers safe, including physical distancing in our waiting rooms, scheduling fewer interviews at a time, frequent disinfection of high touch areas, and requiring masks in all indoor spaces.

The Embassy has remained open to provide emergency and mission-critical visa services throughout the pandemic. In September 2020, we resumed scheduling emergency nonimmigrant visa applications and some immigrant visa interview appointments.

Non-Immigrant Visas: Appointments for most categories of routine non-immigrant visas, including visitor visas for vacation travel (B1/B2), have been suspended until further notice. To schedule or request an expedited visitor visa appointment, please follow the instructions under Emergency Travel on our Non-Immigrant Visa Page.

Immigrant Visas: Rescission of Presidential Proclamation 10014 – With the Feb 24 rescission of this Proclamation, we are now able to process all categories of immigrant visas; however, our operations continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  At this time, we are still operating at a reduced capacity to provide routine visa services, so wait times for appointments will continue to be significantly longer than pre-pandemic levels. Immigrant visa applicants who have not yet been interviewed or scheduled for an interview will have their applications processed according to our existing phased resumption of visa services framework. Applicants will receive appointment notices or scheduling instructions once their case gets to the head of the scheduling queue.

DO NOT TRAVEL TO GUYANA UNTIL YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT.

If you are an IR-1, CR-1, IR-2 or CR-2 applicant and you missed your previous immigrant interview appointment, you can request a new appointment by logging into your case at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ or by calling our Customer Service Center 1-877-246-6788 (local) or 703-988-5765 (U.S).  There is no fee to schedule or reschedule an appointment—do not pay fees to third parties.

The geographic COVID-19-related Proclamations:  9984, 9992, and 10143, remain in effect.  Immigrant visa applicants who are spouses or children of U.S. citizens (IR/CR-1, IR/CR-2), as well as spouses and minor children of LPRs (F2A), are excepted from the geographic COVID-19 P.P.s.  All other immigrant visa applicants and K fiancé nonimmigrant visa applicants remain subject to these geographic COVID-19 P.P.s., unless another exception applies.
