Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Georgetown, Guyana

Location: Georgetown, Guyana

Event:  There has been an ongoing protest and civil unrest at Soesdyke (Linden area). The road is currently blocked off as residents of the area are protesting. As of 1:00 pm, the situation remains tense and traffic is stopped in both directions.  Guyanese Police Force are on scene and attempting to gain control.  The protest is scheduled to continue and is unknown how long the protest will last.

 Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
