U.S. Embassy Georgetown, Guyana
May 20, 2020
Location: Guyana
Event: The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor the current situation in Guyana with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are aware of the hardship land and airspace border closures have created for U.S. citizens who need to return to the United States after Guyana closed its airspace to commercial flights on March 18th. The closure has been extended twice and is set to expire on June 3rd. To date we have requested special permission from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority to operate service for six commercial relief flights to transport Americans and their families’ home.
Permission was granted for the seventh commercial relief flight operated by Eastern Airlines with direct service from Georgetown to Miami, Friday May 22, 2020 departing at 16:30. This flight is open only to U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, and third country nationals with a valid visa or ESTA for transit. Tickets will be available to purchase on the Eastern website at www.goeasternair.com
