Ladies and Gentlemen

Good afternoon, it is my pleasure to be here with you today in the beautiful “land of many waters” for the handover of these 13 solar refrigerators to the people of Guyana.

This $160,000 U.S. dollar investment in Guyana’s healthcare system signifies the United States government’s steadfast commitment to the well-being of the Guyanese people.

Today’s handover is part of our broader COVID-19 support to the Government of Guyana. Even though the immediate crisis of the pandemic is over, we must remember that COVID-19 is now part of our health landscape and is here to stay.

This therefore means we must remain vigilant. We must be prepared not only for COVID-19 but also for any other unforeseen severe health condition with a significant risk of international spread.

While we safeguard our health, it is equally important to strengthen the healthcare system and make it more resilient to future challenges.

The United States government is committed to ensuring our efforts align with the Guyana Health Vision 2030 to improve the health outcome of every Guyanese citizen with a focus on equity.

In collaboration with the Government of Guyana, UNICEF, and the broader donor community, we are working to improve health systems to better our collective efforts in combating malaria and other diseases. We pledge to continue our support to address the challenges of COVID-19 and other future healthcare concerns.

I am confident the Ministry will find these refrigerators to be a valuable addition to their resources and will ensure safe vaccine storage to build a stronger healthcare system.

Thank you.
