Remarks as prepared
Ambassador Sarah-Ann Lynch
Vehicle Handover Ceremony to Ministry of Health
January 28, 2022
Honorable Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony,
Staff of the Ministry of Health,
Members of the Media,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning. It’s a pleasure to be here again, as we have so many times in the past, to offer U.S. assistance to the people of Guyana. Throughout the pandemic we have been there, providing freezers, tents, and of course vaccines, to help Guyanese stay healthy. Including regional assistance, the total donated throughout the pandemic is almost $6.5 million USD.
The automobiles we’re handing over today are not specific to our COVID assistance. They are in response to requests made by the Ministry last year, to assist with access to patients. We hope that they help the government serve the people of Guyana with efficiency. The vehicles have a combined value of $71,000 USD, donated through the Department of Defense Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster, and Civic Aid Excess Property Program. While I hope I never need to ride in one of these vehicles, I am looking forward to seeing them be carefully kept and maintained as they serve the Guyanese people.
In addition, I received word that an additional component of this donation, which includes exam tables, a physical therapy table, wheelchairs, and blankets, with a combined value of $ 45,000 USD, recently arrived in Guyana and is currently clearing customs.
As I do on every occasion these days, I would like to encourage everyone to get their jab and continue to abide by the Covid-19 protocols. Thank you very much.
